Carson Salyer

Carson Salyer is a retired Presbyterian pastor whose avocational life has always included artistic expression. He has found inspiration in music, literature, visual art of all kinds, and spending time outdoors surrounded by natural beauty. In this season of his life, Carson is enjoying his expanding opportunities for woodturning and woodcarving.

Carson hopes that anyone viewing or using something he created will sense the inspiration and joy he found in the creative process.

“Wood is a fascinating and exciting media to shape on a lathe. The process of exposing the natural grain of the wood reveals underlying patterns and hues of beauty. The natural qualities of the wood add textures, contrasting colors and a patina that create a unique palate of elegant simplicity. Wood carving provided the excitement of watching a form emerge from the raw element of wood.”
