Jon Kell is a geologist turned lapidary artist and silversmith. His process begins with the careful selection of rough stone directly from mines in the American West. He hand-cuts every stone to reveal the inherent beauty of these rich and colorful natural materials using traditional lapidary techniques. These are showcased in simple stone-forward designs primarily fabricated from sterling silver sheet and wire. In addition to fabrication he also hand-carves wax models for lost-wax casting as well as tufa and sand casting methods. He practices the traditional art of metal stamping and fabricates all of the steel stamps that are used in his designs. The integrity of the materials and the craftsmanship allow him to guarantee the results for life. Mr. Kell has bachelor’s degrees in soil science and geology and a master’s in biogeochemistry. He currently resides in White Bluff, TN.
