John Sadler is a nature photographer currently based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Originally born in Nashville, Tennessee, he developed a natural affinity for the forests and lakes which dominated the central region where he grew up. He is much more content among the quiet rustling of trees and songs of birds than trapped listening to rushing cars within pavement-covered suburbia. While attending college in Birmingham, Alabama, he took an introductory photography class and fell in love with the medium, spending dozens of additional hours in the darkroom developing film. He bought his first digital camera after graduating and moved to Alaska where he honed his craft and discovered his spiritual home in the untouched mountain landscapes. It was there where he captured the majority of his portfolio, usually on long backpacking excursions into the wilderness with his friends.
John is currently attending the University of North Carolina pursuing a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning. One area of interest to him involves designing towns with nature in mind; for communities to conserve and have access to undeveloped areas within and surrounding city limits for everyone to enjoy and benefit from in the future. He hopes his photography will help reconnect people to the natural world and encourage them to support its conservation.
